I went to uni and realised it wasn’t for me and that I’d be
better suited for an apprenticeship role. I wanted to find a marketing
apprenticeship in a media related company. I couldn’t find anything that was
ticking the boxes until I came across @talk_2_dan Instagram and saw a
variety of many interesting well paid media apprenticeships and other
opportunities posted on his page that I never saw on other apprenticeship
websites including .gov search engine. So I saw an opportunity with a
leading British TV channel and thought let me go for it. Dan gave support for
my interview and then checked in to make sure everything went alright.
Couple weeks later I then received a phone call saying I got the
apprenticeship. Without me finding the @talk_2_dan Instagram, I would have
never known about this opportunity which will now jump start my career.
Grateful for the moral support he gave me along the way too.

When the first lockdown hit and we had to work from
home it was very different as we have not been through something like this
before. After pushing myself forward to keep active and keep creative
content a flow, Talk 2 Dan was a great learning experience. For me the Hot
Topics on Instagram Live was very insightful for key notes, being prepared
and how to get the best out of networking was really useful for knowledge
for me to take on board. Through Talk 2 Dan I was able to gain a zoom call
with BBC Sport and got an insight into other employees stories and how
they got their foot through the door. Thank you to Talk 2 Dan for this variety
of insightful information and experience.

I discovered Talk 2 Dan very early on, on Twitter, and I
booked a 1-1 session with him to get my media CV up to scratch. My
session with Dan put me at ease, so much so, it led me to apply for roles
that I previously thought I wasn’t qualified to do. One of the positions I
applied for was to The Warrior Programme, which led me to become a
Content Creator for their programme. He gave my CV a complete overhaul
showing me how to add character to my profile and how to sell my skillset.
Working with Dan helped build my confidence, allowing me to see the value
in my previous unpaid media experiences and the goals I wanted to achieve.
So much so, I now believe in my CV and my talent. Think of Dan as that big
brother in the industry and if you are struggling to get into the media
industry, TALK 2 DAN. I am glad I did.

When I first started to look for jobs in the creative
industry, I was lost and stuck but I feel like Talk 2 Dan really helped me
explore different sectors of the creative industries. All the experiences I’ve
gained and that Talk 2 Dan helped me get, helped shape who I am today and
decide what I liked and didn’t like and I am very grateful for all the work
experiences, internships and past jobs I’ve had because I wouldn’t be where
I am without them. I now currently work as a social media manager, meaning
I look after businesses social media and create posts for them.

I had an amazing time with BBC Sports at Commonwealth Games – it was such an amazing experience and I managed to meet and network with many people from different job fields. I was able to get a taster into the industry from a different perspective and I was able to gain clarification around the type of work I would like to do in the future moving forward. I got a first hand look at the studio being built up and prepared, a taster of what being in the production team duties involves, how things are operated behind the scenes such as camera’s, gallery’s, sound, etc. I worked closely with presenters, ex-olympians as well as olympians participating in the CWG’s. I would highly recommend to anyone who would like to get their foot into the industry and get a taster of the different roles available.
